Volunteer Hours

Foothills members send me the hours they have volunteered for TU events, projects, or business. My fiscal year report is due by 9/15 and it takes some time to compile the numbers for the volunteer categories.

Thanks

The Jones Creek workday

The Jones Creek workday is scheduled for 18 June, 9 AM to 12 PM. Jones Creek is located at the end of FS 77A. There is a sign that points the way off FS 77. Participants should be at the campgrounds area at 8:45 AM to get instructions and pick up gear. Bring gloves and wear good boots as work will be done in the stream and maybe a chair for lunch. Depending on your preference , wet or dry, wading pants are appropriate. Hard hats will be issued on site. Goldrush Chapter will serve lunch after the work session. Water will be provided as well. A set of directions from Dahlonega is attached. I can provide a map to anyone who wishes. Please let me know if you are planning on coming so I can provide a headcount so they have the right amount of food and beverage on hand. Please join us for a few hours socialization and fun with other TU members.

Passing of Sherman Head

All,
It is with immense sadness that I report to you the passing of Sherman Head. As a past president and natural leader, Sherman was beloved by all in our Chapter. Sherman was a giant of a man in both stature and character, always finding time to help others and better our Chapter. He was the best fisherman I ever saw, and was kind enough to help me improve my skills.
As a dear friend, I will sorely miss him. Our hearts and prayers go out to Benny Gayle, Charles, and the rest of the family as they go through these troubling times.
May God Bless.

Next Foothills Monthly Meeting - May 12th

Foothills Meeting

WHERE: United Community Bank, 468 W Louise St, Clarkesville, GA 30523
WHEN: Thursday, May 12th 6-6:30 social time 7-8 Program

Our guest speaker will be Sarah Kelehear, the new Naturalist at Smithgall Woods.  Sarah will be giving Foothillers an overview of the activities she has planned for the coming year.  She'll also be giving us a heads up as to when she will be needing some volunteers to help with certain events.  Finally, at my encouragement, I hope she will give us a list of needs at Smithgall Woods that Foothills TU may consider helping fund.  We have a long history of providing financial support for the Youth Education Program at Smithgall and we currently have the funds to make a difference there.
