Special Events in May Cancelled at Hatchery

It is with deepest regret that Deputy Hatchery Manager Mr. Kelly Taylor has asked me to let you know that the Special Kids Fishing Rodeo scheduled for May 13th and the Veterans Appreciation Fishing Rodeo scheduled for May 8th must be officially cancelled due to the ongoing construction project here at the hatchery. Mr. Taylor has received information that work will inevitably be extended into the month of May.

  The HOOT is approaching fast-Sat the 21st. Auction items/raffle
donations still needed. Please bring items we will add to list in preparation for HOOT.

  This Sat from 9-12 is State TU Council Meeting and will be in Tocoaa at the Electric Corp Office. It is open to all-please join us there to learn more about what all TU chapters are doing on  local , state and national issues.

The Georgia Foothills chapter of Trout Unlimited will hold their annual fundraiser at the Helendorf Inn in Helen Georgia at 5:00 pm on Saturday, March 21st. There will be a band for entertainment and a barbecue dinner. Admission is $30 which includes the BBQ dinner. A silent auction will also be held for those wanting to bid on many items…. Most related to fishing. There will also be raffle tickets for sale for many other donated items. The drawing for annual “Dream Trip” sponsored by Georgia Trout Unlimited will also be done at this event. The funds raised go toward the many projects the Foothills chapter of TU has during the coming year. Some of these are a week long trout camp for youth under 16, support for Smithgall Woods-education for kids and adults and work on stream access, stream restoration and improvement projects, working with Veterans through the healing Waters Project at Oakwood, work at the Burton Fish Hatchery, teaching local middle schoolers about fly fishing,including fly tying and casting and supporting Casting for Recovery for women who have had breast cancer.

Fly Fishing Seminar by Rabun TU

Ever wanted to try your hand at fly-fishing for trout but never learned the in’s and out’s of it?
Ever wonder why some people seem to get so “hooked” on it? Now’s your chance! The Rabun Chapter of Trout Unlimited is planning a half-day fly-fishing for trout seminar for adults (male and female 16 years and older).
The seminar will cover equipment, casting, knots and entomology (the bugs we imitate for fish to eat).Instructors include Federation of Flyfishermen Certified Instructors and other experts for a hands-on learning experience that will be helpful and fun.

WHAT: Fly-Fishing Seminar “Rabunite 101”
WHEN: Saturday March 21, 2015 8:30 am until 1:00 pm
WHERE: The Rabun County Recreation Center off Highway 441 near Rabun County Middle and High School complex.
