Camp Glisson Bath House Construction - Need Your Help

Because of potentially inclement weather tomorrow in Dahlonega, the plan is as follows:

I will be at Camp Glisson as originally planned and will decide then whether or not we will work on Friday.  If you live quite far from Dahlonega, you should decide for yourself if you want to risk coming and have to turn around and return home.

We are still a "go" for Saturday at this point in time.

All of us sincerely appreciate your volunteering for this important project and we'll get it done eventually.

Call or text me if you have any questions.

Camp Glisson in Dahlonega has been very good to our Trout Unlimited over the

years.  They have allowed us to use their facilities for our meetings at no cost
to the Gold Rush Chapter.  Now, it is time for us to pay them back.

Gold Rush TU is excited to have the opportunity to partner with Camp Glisson to
build a Bath House for their Middle School Campers.

Bath House:

The Bath House will be a 24' x 35' structure within the Frontier Camp. The Bath
House will support the current 7th to 9th Grades Boy's and Girl's Cabins within
the Camp at their Outpost property. Each cabin holds up to 8 campers and 2
counselors.

The main foundation posts are already in place. We will build out the structure
including the flooring, walls, siding and roof. We will work in conjunction with
a plumber and will be overseen by David Stubblefield, the Camp Facility Services
Director (who is joining our Chapter!).

Equipment:

Camp Glisson will provide necessary tools for us to use, but if you have any of
the following listed below, please bring them, but make sure they are well
marked with your name.

1)      Nail Gun
2)      Level
3)      Compressor
4)      18v drill
5)      Circular saw
6)      Measuring tape

You will need to bring your own gloves and safety glasses if you have them.

Schedule:

Our initial work effort is scheduled for Friday December 8th and Saturday,
December 9th. We will meet at the Welcome Center, at the camp entrance at 8:30
am.

We have tentatively scheduled January 19th and 20th, as additional workdays,
weather permitting.

You do not have to commit to every date. If you can make only one day, that will
make a difference!

Camp Glisson will provide lunch.

Let's have a lot of volunteers for this project and show Camp Glisson how much
we appreciate their support and the use of their facilities for our meetings!
Even if you have no experience with construction or wood working, we need your
help. There are construction materials to be carried, lunch setups to be done,
and a myriad of other activities that will need your assistance.  If you never
sign up for another series of work days, this is the one thing that will have a
lasting impact.

2018 Trout Camp

2018 Trout Camp Applications are now available. We will accept applications at our next monthly meeting. . It would be nice to have applications in hand when making the request at council meeting coming up on Dec 2nd. especially if we have three request and need to try to apply for the third spot.
You can email them to me if you are unable to attend chapter meeting. I don’t see any problems with funding 3 campers instead of the usual 2. This is an excellent use of our money. Please get the applications in as soon as possible and I’ll work at getting the spots secured.

Project Healing Waters Veteran's Day Events

This weekend.....

Hey folks, I think we have everything about ready for Fri. and Sat. – just hope the weather is good.

This is our 3rd annual Vets Fly Fishing Event with great and free BBQ and outstanding fishing at Nacoochee Bend.

We will meet in the big field below the bridge going in to Helen between 10:30 and 11 AM on Fri. for lunch and fishing and we will start our fly tying event on Sat. around 10 AM at Unicoi Outfitters Fly Shop – bring your vise and tools to this.

This is our Main Event of the year and I hope most of our guys will be there – it’s going to be a blast!

We will have a couple of guided trips to give away and more good stuff that will be available.

We will have Vets from Atlanta, Augusta, and Blue Ridge and from different parts of South Carolina.

If the parking lot is filled on Sat. at the shop, don’t park in front of the real estate office. You can park across the street behind the restaurants or you can also park in the Habersham Winery parking lot, walk across the street to Nora Mills and walk up the road to Unicoi Outfitters – if everything else is filled. Don’t park at Nora Mills or Jumping Goat Coffee Shop.

This event was great last year, and we hope it will be even better this time around.

We have put a lot of hard work in preparing for this weekend and so have the folks at Unicoi Outfitters.

We will have the field roped off for parking on Fri. – we cannot park in the middle of the field.

We need another pop-up shelter or canopy for Fri. if anybody can bring one – not real big and we need to have it there in time to set up before we start.

Be sure to bring your Ga. Fishing license and trout stamp and expect a great day!!

I am attaching the info about our event.
If you have questions, email me or call me at 678-316-1288.
Thanks to everyone who helped stock fish last week – it was awesome – and thanks to all you guys for helping make our group special.
Thanks,
Ron
